Throwback Thursday: Hairstyles of the 80s
If anything was notorious about the 80s besides the clothes it had to have been the hair. In some cases, the more the better. Be honest, if your kids saw your year book picture, they would probably say, “You wore that?” Yes, you did. Let’s take a look at some of the popular styles:
Big hair

Yep, this is probably what broke the ozone layer. Comb it out, use as much hairspray as you think you can muster and this was the end result.
The Mullet

Business up front and a party in the back. If there ever was a style that didn’t know if it was coming or going, this was it.
Finger Waves

Once popular in the 1920 and 30s and brought back in the 80s. I can’t imagine how many jars of gel women went through to get this look but I DO know that if done correctly, thier hair was hard as bricks. And don’t be that one woman who let it go so long that your gel started to flake!
Asymmetric Hair

Technically, it’s still around as singers like Rhianna are trying to bring this style back. Long on one side, short on the other and sometimes dyed. It was a very dramatic look for some if done right.
High top fade

Yet another style that hasn’t completely faded (pun intended) away. Made popular bu hip hop artists and b ballers alike, there were many different ways to wear it from Bobby Brown’s “Gumby style” to the superhigh “Kid” of Kid ‘n Play eraser top hair. Disappeared for a short while but, It’s starting to come back…again.
Jheri Curl

If there ever was a style that does not need to come back it would be this one. It was time consuming, it was messy and after awhile it was ridiculous. But almost everybody had one or knew someone that had one. A lot of celebrities had them and of course who can forget Michael Jackson’s accident or “Follow the drip, follow the drip.” If there was ever a hair style that many couldn’t wait to play itself out…it was this one.
