Review Brew: Lone Wolf 2100 #2

Writer: Eric Heisserer

Artist: Miguel Sepulveda

Colors: Javier Mena

Daisy Ogama is the cure to the virus that has almost wiped out all humanity. Itto, her guardian android, seeks to find a country that will be able to find a place to develop a cure for everyone. Will Itto succeed in his endeavor or will Daisy fall into the wrong hands?

After catching up with the first issue and sinking my teeth into the second, this developed into an interesting read. Writer Eric Heisserer shows how far the world has fallen from the plague of the so-called “T-Virus”(not the Resident Evil kind). Seeing how world leaders act to a chance of a cure is handled in a way you can believe. The story itself switches back and forth between Itto, who searches for a place to develop and spread the cure, and Daisy; who is being looked after by another android named Elmore. Elmore is keeping children safe from the Thrall (people infected by the T-Virus) on a farm which is located in the mountains. Since their never upwind from the creatures. The interactions between characters are developed well and how Elmore treats the children he protects is sweet. The story flowed at a good pace and tender moments are brought in to illustrate the harsh reality of the situation around Daisy. You can tell by the end of the issue, it’s going to be hard for her to find a place to live. I don’t have many complaints about the story except that it feels familiar.

Artist Miguel Sepulveda does fantastic in this issue. His line work makes characters look distinct and defined in their appearance, even adding wrinkles to show age. Enemies in power armor show up and the design of the armor are sleek. When the action gets going, it gets going. Sepulveda makes the action looks great as Itto engages the enemy forces. Even though it’s only brief, it shows how dangerous Itto is and with the use of shadows make him scary. Also, the environments looked gorgeous. Color artist Javier Mena did an amazing job with the colors in this issue. The colors of the power suits, environments, and action scenes look stunning in color.

Lone Wolf 2100 #2 has a good story, art, colors, and tender moments. The story seems familiar, but it keeps itself interesting because of the characters. Even though Itto is an android, he cares for this little girl and wants to see her when the cure is developed. I’m definitely sticking around to finish of the next to issues of this mini-series.
