“Arkon, The Magnificent”

With each piece of Battleworld filled with various realities, this section of Battleworld is well, weird. I don’t know much about the original “WeirdWorld”, but having Jason Aaron and Michael Del Mundo on the title, is gold. The story has us following the barbarian Arkon, as he traverses this world to find Polemachus, his home.

Jason Aaron keeps the story simple. Arkon is seeking his homeland, but he may get more than he bargained for. Arkon is a tough guy that has dispatched strange creatures on his quest. The one thing he can’t kill is the loneliness or hopelessness of his never-ending quest to find his home. The world itself is like a character with dangers around every turn. If you don’t know much about Arkon, it’s okay, Jason Aaron keeps it reader friendly. I didn’t find anything bad about the writing for this first issue, but the story did offer something different compared to the other areas of Battle world.

Michael Del Mundo creates a beautiful world and it’s breathtaking. Arkon looks amazing with his assortment of weapons. The creatures look vicious and deadly. The action is amazing showing how Arkon is when battling foes. Del Mundo also makes the subtle moments look amazing such as seeing our character have tears roll down his face. You can  see the anguish in his eyes after finding out about WeirdWorld. I love the designs of the creatures such as gun toting ogres, dragons, and shark squids. Del Mundo’s artistic precision comes up with a cool looking map that Arkon has drawn. It wouldn’t be WeirdWorld without the various colors that make up the land. The tag team of Del Mundo and D’Alfonso make this title really unique. The colors flow well and bring out Del Mundo’s art.

“WeirdWorld” is a unique title coming from Marvel. Jason Aaron does a great job on this first issue introducing us to this strange land and the characters in it.  Michael Del Mundo’s artwork looks incredible as always. His art shines in this title and makes it unique. The action is fast and brutal. Michael Del Mundo and Marco D’Alfonso on colors further enhance the titles appeal. I hope more people pick up this title before it wraps up.

5 out of 5 Arkons
